Marine Writing subhead

Marianne Scott’s intensely researched and carefully checked articles have elicited these editor comments:

“We read the Spencer/Kellam article last night and drank a toast to you and the professionalism that always shows in your work. It’s hard for me to believe sometimes that you’re not even doing this in your ‘mother tongue.’ What a special gift you have!”

Karen Larson, editor, Good Old Boat

“Marianne is a low-maintenance writer.”

Duart Snow, former editor, Pacific Yachting

Most of Marianne Scott's writings focus on the nautical world.

Besides her abundant travel-by-boat pieces, Marianne’s marine articles cover many subjects, most requiring in-depth investigation. She’s written about the history of charting, maximizing onboard storage, choosing electronic charts, the causes and consequences of marina fires, constructing boats, establishing single-sideband nets during ocean crossings, a high-seas rescue, sail training and boating safety. She’s also met and interviewed scores of people influential in the boating industry, including such renowned yacht builders as Orin Edson (founder of Bayliner) and Tolly Tollefsen (Tollycraft), designers Bruce Kirby and Hobie Alter of Laser and Hobie Cat fame, and naval architects Ed Monk, Jr., Jack Sarin and Greg Marshall.

Her megayacht reviews appear in Showboats International, Yachts International, Boat International USA and UK, and the coffee table book, Megayachts USA 2004.
